Aha moment #2

Aha moment #2

This came from conversation in an introductory training for supervisors with Fiona Howard about how supervisors guide the structure of the session while supervisees guide the content. This can reinforce the power imbalance if the supervisor is overly directive about how they want the session to be structured, or force what is brought up. One participant was a ballroom dancer who likened it to the way that the lead in dancing does not seek to be the star by controlling the steps. Rather, they plan which sequence is coming next to highlight the skill and ability of their partner. What a strengths based approach, and one we can all bring to guided professional reflection!
